About
From an idea to a handoff
Space operators need better awareness, and they need it from teams that can finish a piece of work. This lab is the Texas half of that path.
Mission
Build solutions for the U.S. Space Force BMC3I mission by putting academic and industry people on the same problem, early, and moving the result to the Colorado lab.
Why the lab is in Texas
UT Austin hosts the lab. That is a place, not a residency rule. Faculty, students, startups, and companies from anywhere can take part.
-
What Texas brings
Johnson Space Center, commercial operators, and a growing industry in Austin. The university hosts the lab so schools and companies can build together.
-
Not limited to Texas
A team does not have to be from Texas or from UT Austin. A local team is useful. It is not a requirement.
Why these partners
-
Universities
Faculty and students bring the early technical work and a bench the company may not have. The lab is hosted at UT Austin and open to other schools.
-
Industry
Companies are the usual applying entity. They carry the idea toward something an operator can use, including through an STTR after the concept proposal.
-
Government
The mission is BMC3I for the U.S. Space Force. Government partners name the need. They do not have to sit inside every team.
Two labs, one path
Texas is the incubator, TRL 1 through 4. Colorado is the accelerator, from about TRL 5 toward deployment. A team is not asked to do both jobs in Austin.
- 01
Team selection
About four teams in the first group. Aimed at February.
- 02
Concept proposal
About a week in Austin.
- 03
Progress demo
The work, in motion.
- 04
Final demo
Ready to hand across.
- 05
Colorado
Integration and deployment. An STTR is a funding step after the concept proposal.
Who you would be working with
-
UT Austin
Hosts the Texas lab. The university owns the program relationship. The site is not a UT-only brand.
-
Elizabeth Taylor
Program manager for BMC3I TAP Lab Texas.
-
Moriba Jah
Technical review of what this site claims still sits with him.
-
GaiaVerse
Builds the lab platform and this site. The public site is not the platform, and a webinar signup does not create an account.
-
Colorado lab
The next lab on the path. It names focus areas. Texas names innovation areas under them.
